I Loved Meeting Your Friends

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit apprehensive when I learned that our little party would be a bit bigger than I expected. But it didn't take me long to realize that if I really want to get to know you - all of you (and oh but I do, so very, very badly…), that includes getting to know the people you spend your time with.

That it turned out to not just be a handful of your friends, but effectively your old high school crew… The people you ran around with during your teenaged years, as you developed and found yourself as a person… hell, one of them even longer, your best friend since elementary school…

I loved it. Absolutely loved it.

It was an amazing insight into you. Who you were then, who you are now. Oh, sure… there were a few parts of that trip down memory lane you guys took that… were harder. The ones involving him. But even some of those…

I had no expectation, none at all, that I would get to learn these things about you on this trip.

And that you kept including me… even though I was a bit of an outsider during that conversation, you kept pulling me into it… You didn't have to, I was fascinated by what I was learning, but you just…

I don't know how you do it… if you found my user manual in the library, or cast some kind of spell on me, or what, but everything you do, everything I learn about you, every friend of yours I meet… everything… Just makes me love you more. I'm in freefall, no ground in sight.

Thank you for introducing me to your old gang. I can think of very few things better than getting to spend time with the lot of you again… and making lots of memories that we can all reminisce on over a campfire, twenty years from now.

That would be… perfect.
